May day fun

Each week in May we’re going to highlight some of our app content to help you get the most from using your app.  We’re starting by celebrating the activities, highlighting how you find them and sharing some tips for getting the most out of them!

Your app is entirely personalised to your child, or children, so the activities you see are linked to the skills they have active. Your activities are all created by our child development experts to help your child practise the skill, or the things they need to learn to master it.

There are different ways to find activity ideas in your app:

Scroll down a skill

Tap a skill tile and scroll down the page – you’ll see a bit more explanation about the skill, then an activity idea that will help you to support your child to master the skill.

On the activities tab

At the bottom of your app screen, you will see ‘Activities’. Tap this button to open the activity tab and get your all the play ideas linked to your child's active skills in one place.

Your list can be filtered by stream if you want to focus on one area of development.

Our top tips for activities

Look at a couple of activities and choose according to the time you have

We know parents are busy, so we have a mixture of different types of activities. Some are simply a way to tweak routines to help your child master a skill, others might take a little longer or involve more planning, perfect for when you have more time to play.

Most skills have two activity suggestions, and your child will always have lots of skills they are working on – so you can choose an activity according to how much time you have, what you’d like to set up and even if you want to be inside or outside!

Adapt the activity according to your child’s interests

We give lots of information about the skill and activities so you can adapt the activity for your child – we might suggest using toy animals, but you know your child loves cars, so go ahead and swap them out. Never be afraid to adapt the activity to their interests.

Do things you enjoy

With thousands of activity ideas, you can play to your strengths and choose ideas you know you’ll enjoy – your child will see your interest and enthusiasm and get even more involved in their play.

Share the app with other people who spend time with your child – you’ll all have different interests, so your child will get to experience a variety of activities.

Check your child’s skills journey

Don’t forget to keep your child’s skills up to date, mastering those they’ve learnt, so you always have fresh ideas that are perfect for them.

You can read our tips for mastering skills, and watch a video about using the quick master function here.
