What can your baby remember?

Memory is complex and there are different ideas about how much babies can remember and how and when their memory develops. There have been several studies that show babies remember things from before they were born, for example, some newborn babies will settle when they hear the theme tune of their mother’s favourite TV programme.

Your baby's face recognition

It is important that your baby recognises faces, as they are dependent on those around them for everything. Researchers used electrodes to see which areas of the brain responded when babies looked at faces, and found that the responses to familiar faces and unfamiliar faces were different. So, one of the first things that you might notice your baby remembering is people.
