Foods to inspire your baby's senses
Mealtimes are the perfect opportunity for your baby to explore a variety of sights, smells, textures and flavours. If you are stuck in a rut with mealtimes, here are a few foods that you could try as part of meals or snacks.
Sweet potato
Sweet potato is versatile, full of colour and nutrients. It can be baked into batons – perfect for picking up and exploring with fingers. It can also be part of a warming soup or mild curry that the whole family can enjoy.
Berries
Blueberries, raspberries and strawberries (although not officially a berry!) are great as part of a snack or a breakfast. They can be held between fingers, are packed full of flavour and can be squashed and explored with their differing textures.
Peppers
Peppers are bright, colourful and packed with vitamins. They’re also quick to prepare as finger food for young children.
Bananas
Bananas are also great as finger food – simply chop into batons and give to your child! They’ll love exploring the texture with their fingers, and banana is a great accompaniment for sugar-free yogurt.
Pitta bread
Pitta breads are a fantastic staple. They can be used as a simple snack, or as part of a meal. Strips of pitta bread are easy for young children to pick up, hold and dip with – try with houmous or another favourite side.
