Tummy time tips – ideas as your baby gets stronger
Your baby might not have been very keen on tummy time, but now as they are getting stronger they might start to enjoy playing on their front a bit more.
Here are a few things to try:
- Always supervise your baby during tummy time, stay close by and encourage them as they lift their head and look around.
- As they develop their strength, you can support them by placing a rolled-up towel under their arms.
- Think about when your baby has tummy time, make sure they are alert and comfortable – tummy time will be hard work for them!
- Keep it short: your baby is still developing the strength in their muscles and they might get tired quickly, so keep tummy time short at first.
- Give them things to look at; you could lie on the floor with your baby, so as they lift their head they can see you; or give them a safe mirror or some interesting toys to look at – this might help make tummy time fun for them.
- Notice if your baby is starting to seem tired – holding their head up is hard work for them and they might flop down as they become more tired, so make sure they don’t bump their head.
