Squatting skills – why they're so good for your toddler

Toddler squatting is a perfectly natural movement. Humans used to squat all the time and in many parts of the world squatting is common while cooking, eating, foraging and sitting. Regardless of why your toddler squats today, the advantages of this skill are eye-opening.

Squatting offers your toddler a different perspective of the world

Your toddler might squat to examine a leaf on the floor more carefully, or they might want to play with a toy that has fallen to the ground.

Every time your toddler squats, their legs get stronger

This strength will be used in the future when they wish to leap and jump.

Squatting improves their range of movement

Each time your toddler squats, they use the muscles in their lower body. Their body is already flexible, and squatting helps it to stay this way.

Your toddler will also learn about balance

To keep from toppling forward or backward, your toddler will use their toes to flex and grasp. Learning to use their toes to assist balance will come in handy later in life when playing outside and trying to balance on logs or park play equipment.
