Slippery snacks – ways to make finger foods easier to grip

It is very important to ensure finger foods are safe for your baby, especially that they’re soft enough for little ones to chew easily. Foods like avocado, mango and steamed vegetables are fantastic choices... except when it comes to getting a good grip on these slippery snacks!

If your baby is getting frustrated or struggling to hold on to some foods, you can roll them in a thin coating of dry foods to make them easier to grip. The coatings will add an extra flavour and texture experience for your baby as well.

Here are some of our favourite options:

  • Sweet fruits like mango or pear can be rolled in a small amount of coconut, ground almonds or even powdered baby cereal (avoid adult cereal as this is often very high in sugar).
  • Vegetables like avocado or steamed carrots are lovely rolled in breadcrumbs, oat flour or ground flaxseed.
