Parent wellbeing – check in with yourself
Parenting – especially being a new parent – can be tough on your wellbeing at times. So, it is important to take care of yourself, and understand how you are feeling about and coping with parenthood.
Taking a step back
When you are busy with family life, being the best parent that you can be can take time away from taking care of yourself and your emotions. Some days (and weeks, and months) can be stressful, and sometimes it’s a good idea to take a step back and think about what is going on in your head.
Find someone to talk to
Sometimes, simply talking about how you're feeling can be helpful. Find someone you can talk to honestly about all aspects of parenthood – this could be a friend or family member, or you might find a chat with other parents online works for you. Our Facebook community is a really good place to share things you're experiencing.
Having something to look forward to during the week can be a real boost, whether it's meeting a friend for a walk (and a chat), going out for a coffee, or even getting back to your favourite exercise (check with your doctor before getting back to anything too vigorous!).
Looking for support
If you feel that you need more support with how you are feeling, this might be available through professionals who are working with your family. Or you can contact PANDAS who have trained volunteers ready to listen and provide support.
PANDAS exists for all parents (mums and dads) and carers. If you are worried about anyone in that position, you can also contact them. You are NOT alone.
