Looking for something new to listen to? Here are some of our favourite podcasts!

Being a parent means you have to get your information on the go, and we love the way podcasts allow us to get bite-sized chunks of learning, or laughing, into our day. We have our own podcast all about realistic parenting (more on that below), and have found three more favourite listens which help to lift us up on busy days.

However you listen to podcasts – through Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube or other players – we hope there is something in this list that will make your day a bit better for having listened!

The My First Five Years Podcast

This had to be first on our list! Our co-founders Alistair and Jennie discuss all things realistic parenting with episodes on topics we know are hard, like fussy eating, sleep, coping with the comparisons that come with parenting, the impact of lockdowns, gender and more.

Each episode is there to help you find the joy in parenting, with the latest research in the world of child development and expert tips that actually work.

You’re Dead to Me

Although the name is alarming, this podcast series from the BBC combines history and comedy perfectly. Each episode is hosted by Greg Jenner (who had a hand in bringing Horrible Histories to out TVs) and features a historian teaching us and a comedian all about an interesting, and often unexpected, bit of history.

You will learn about everything from traditional Victorian Christmases to Medieval animals, to the secrets of Empires throughout history and important people you’ve never even heard of (but should have). You’ll probably also laugh quite a lot, so consider how mad you’ll look when planning to listen while rushing through the shop or walking the dog.

Sensemaker

This is a perfect podcast for anyone who wants to feel like they know what’s happening in the world, but has no time to find out! Each episode is under 10 minutes, and a new one comes out every day.

Describing itself as ‘one story every day to make sense of the world’ it gives insight and information about a top news story so you can have a proper, grown-up, conversation about it without feeling like you’re out of the loop.

Phoebe Reads a Mystery

If you wish you had more time to read, but find even the process of trying to decide which audiobook to invest in next a bit too much, this old but brilliant podcast is for you! Each episode features a chapter of a classic novel being read to you (in a very soothing way) by host Phoebe Judge.

Although no new episodes are being made, there are plenty of stories to listen to and get you brain working to solve before the story ends! Although originally focused on mysteries from authors like Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan-Doyle, the series branched out into other literary classics so you’ll have plenty of genres to choose from.
