Bi-lateral coordination - squeezing activity:
Your toddler’s hands are working together in what is known symmetrical bilateral coordination. Put simply, it means that their hands are mirroring each other. Examples of symmetrical bilateral coordination are: popping bubbles with two hands, holding a camera or binoculars with two hands, using a rolling pin or making a ball of clay using both hands.
Why don’t you give this a try?
Have a look to see if you have any empty squeezy bottles, these could be from shampoo, washing liquid, small water bottles, bubble bath or ketchup. Fill them with water, paint, half-and-half bubble or paint mixes, or bubbly paint.
You can go outdoors, be in the bath or simply have fun with bowls and containers inside. Encourage your toddler to squeeze the bottle with both hands.
If you are outside and you have access to plenty of bottles, your toddler can create large pictures by using different colours and thicknesses of liquid.
