Adding to your play kit
Building a bank of resources for your play kit is great for being able to quickly grab something to keep your child entertained between those busier moments of the day.
When thinking about experimenting with rolling, balls are great, but there are lots of other household resources that you could use too! When playing with these items, always make sure that your child is supervised closely.
Kitchen roll tube or inner tube from finished foil or cling film
Kitchen roll tubes come in handy for many play ideas, from an explorer's telescope to pretend musical instrument. For now, you could simply use one to roll back and forth between yourself and your child.
Tin cans
Unopened tin cans from the cupboard are another easy item to roll around the house. These can also double up as building blocks that you can arrange, stack and knock down. It’s best to sit down with your baby when playing with these so you can make sure that any heavy cans are knocked away from them.
Cups
Paper or plastic cups are super fun to roll, and, like tin cans, they can be stacked and used to build with. If your baby likes playing with water, you can add cups to scoop and empty in the bath, paddling pool or a water tray. With all forms of water play, always make sure your child is supervised closely.
