When you sit your baby down for a snack or a meal, you may notice them look to you, babble or talk, or explore their food with their hands and mouth. We say: use this time wisely!
Tastes and textures
When you give your child food, let them have time to have a play around. They're learning all about new and exciting smells, tastes and textures so they might want to sniff it, squeeze it or lick it before eating.
Naming foods
As your baby picks up their foods to explore, tell them what they are holding or eating. Even if they aren’t talking yet, this is a good way to familiarise them with foods that may become favourites!
Have a chat
Talk to your baby about what they are eating. Ask them questions about their food, or narrate what they are doing and make eye contact. You may notice that your baby smiles, babbles or even starts to say some words or make noises in response. This is a great way to make your relationship even stronger and develop their communication skills!
