Looking for some simple ideas for finger foods? This sweet and savoury mixture will serve up some tasty snacks while giving your baby a good fine motor workout too!

  • Toast strips

Lightly toast some bread, spread a thin layer of peanut butter on top and cut into thin strips (only do this if you’ve given your baby a small amount of peanut butter before).

  • Avocado wedges

Cut slices of avocado into thin strips and serve. Ensure the pieces are soft.

  • Sweet potato chips

Peel and slice a sweet potato into chips lengths, before baking for 15 minutes or until soft.

  • Banana strips

Separate a banana into three pieces, slice each in half and serve.

  • Pancake strips

Use a baby-friendly pancake recipe to make some delicious homemade pancakes and then cut them into strips (pancakes usually freeze really well).

  • Pasta

Well-cooked fusilli pasta is a great finger food that's also easy to hold.

  • Shredded chicken

Cooked chicken shredded into finger food lengths is a nutritious and interesting finger food.

  • Grated cheese

A quick and easy finger food is simple grated cheese – it’s also great for practising fine motor skills.

  • Peas

These might be quite difficult for your baby to pick up at first, but peas make an excellent finger food and good for fine motor exercise!

  • Cucumber fingers

Cut into thin fingers, cucumber makes a refreshing finger food and is brilliant for teething babies. Be careful to watch them with the rind which can be difficult to chew.
