Five tips to support rolling
Your baby is growing in confidence to roll on to their tummy. Here are five tips to support them to roll.
1) Give lots of floor time
By providing playtime on the floor, your baby can explore and practise their movements. Having fewer objects on the floor enables them to roll more freely.
2) Roll into and out of tummy time
Gently rolling your baby from their back to their tummy, ready to play, can help them learn about this movement.
3) Offer opportunities to play in different positions
Allowing play on their back, tummy, both sides and upright offers lots of ways to learn how to move.
4) Use engaging toys
Toys that are fun to play with will draw your baby's attention; choose toys you know your baby will want to watch. To encourage your baby to roll, place the toys just out of reach.
5) Let them fail
Like all things in life, trial and error are part of learning to roll. When your baby is learning to roll, they will get stuck. Give them time to try and move themselves before rushing in to help. Each time they get stuck, give them a chance to work out what they need to do!
