Five things you can 'learn again' from your baby

As a parent, you might feel there's a natural onus on you to be 'the expert' who passes on knowledge to your baby; after all, you've been here much longer than they have. But there are many wonderful things they can help us to learn all over again – things we might have forgotten we could do. We just have to open our eyes to their innocent wisdom. Here are five ways to feel ‘baby enlightened’!

Be curious

Babies by nature are curious creatures. They are experiencing so many things for the first time and making discoveries about the world around them. This doesn’t stop once you reach a certain age! Ask questions, be inquisitive or dig deeper into something that you are already interested in. There are plenty of podcasts, books and documentaries to sink your teeth into when you have the time.

Find fun in the everyday

Have you noticed that even the things that you see as mundane can seem magical for your baby? Take a step back and see where you can squeeze in five minutes of fun or silliness, or simply take a look around at what amazing things you can spot while you’re out and about running errands.

See each moment as an opportunity to learn

Learning new things doesn’t stop once you leave the classroom. There are many seemingly little, everyday moments that you can learn from – a chat with another parent about their career (current or previous) can be a real eye-opener.

Feel what you need to feel

Even as an adult, emotions can be as big and scary as they are for babies and young children. Whether you’re feeling happy, sad or anything inbetween, share your feelings. Your happiness and joy can spread to those around you, and speaking to others when you are down can make sure that your loved ones hold your hand when you need it.

Spot windows for spontaneity

Sometimes the best moments in life are the spontaneous ones. Yes, structure and routine are great for you and your baby, but on occasion, it’s great to just go with the flow – jump in that puddle, have an impromptu dance party in the kitchen while the tea is cooking and spend time following what interests and excites you!
