Why the unfamiliar fascinates your baby
According to studies, babies will look at unfamiliar objects for longer and more intently than familiar objects. That's why a baby may gaze at a stranger, especially if the visitor has a beard, spectacles or other distinguishing characteristics. It's also why a beloved toy loses its charm after a time, and why a person they don’t see every day, like a shop assistant or an aunt, might fascinate them.
When your baby is looking at something, catch their gaze and talk to them about it. You may not have even noticed what has caught their interest.
