Calm Down, Boris by Sam Lloyd

What a wonderful book! Boris is a lovable, cheeky monster who adores giving people a kiss. You can stick your hand into the Boris puppet and bring him to life; your toddler will probably love doing this too!

Being a puppet, Boris' mouth can be opened and closed in the same way that scissors can be opened and closed. This means that even without practising scissor skills, your toddler will be doing the action required for this skill.

The book encourages interaction on every page with lots of opportunities for your toddler to wonder about what Boris has eaten for breakfast, what might be in his picnic or what he might have been watching on TV. They might also want to tell you what they have eaten or what they would make for Boris if they had the chance.

The story begins with Boris getting ready to go to the park, and you are invited to help him. A team effort will help Boris check for bugs and brush his hair, although when he's finished, be on the lookout for his enthusiastic thanks!

We quickly see that Boris wants to be everyone's friend; he simply wants to smother everyone he meets in kisses, which is obviously not necessarily what others desire! At the end of this story, though, Boris becomes a hero and saves the day.

This book is funny, silly and interactive – what else could a toddler want from a book?
