Your baby is now able to see more detail, and at longer distances, than ever before. They have truly opened their eyes to the world.
Your baby can really focus on objects close to their face, so make the most of this by introducing them to lots of natural wonders
When you are outdoors, bring your baby up close to interesting objects then talk to them about what you see and feel.
Trees, flowers, rocks and even grass can all be fascinating for our babies to see, hear and touch. They change with the seasons, and even the weather, so offer an almost limitless amount of sensory exploration as your baby grows.
Keep the usual safety rules in mind while you explore
Choose items to show them that are around the size of your palm, like large pebbles or pieces of wood if they will be holding them independently.
Supervise your baby, including with natural items, as their instinct will still be to taste-test what they see. Make sure nothing can easily be broken off the bigger items while they explore.
With a smaller item, you can still show your baby and talk about what you see, even letting them touch it, but keep hold of it yourself to keep it away from their mouth.
Make spending time outside work with routine
You could try taking some of your routine activities outside. From mealtimes and nappy changes to water play and story time – being out in nature will give you and your baby a whole new variety of sensory input as you go about your day.
