Baby gyms and reaching – why they go hand in hand
Baby gyms are great for encouraging babies to reach out and grab at what is in front of them. This early skill, although led by their gross motor movements, will support their fine motor skills as they learn that they can use their fingers to grab and bring an object towards them.
It also supports the development of hand-eye coordination, awareness of cause and effect, and encourages babies to bring both hands towards the midline of their body, which is useful for motor skills and cognitive development, as it integrates both parts of the brain.
