Apples are at their best right now and because of this are usually cheapest in the shops, or being given away by anyone who has an apple tree. It is also the perfect pudding to make you feel autumnal.
You will need:
- 300g plain flour
- 225g brown sugar
- 200g unsalted butter
- 240g apples
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
How to:
- Preheat the oven to 180C.
- Mix the flour and 175g of brown sugar in a large bowl.
- Rub the butter into the flour mixture a few cubes at a time (make sure your butter is room temperature). Then keep rubbing until the mixture becomes breadcrumbs.
- Chop the apples into cubes and place them in a large bowl. Sprinkle over the remaining sugar, 1 tsp of flour and 1 tsp of cinnamon and stir.
- Grease an ovenproof dish using butter and spoon the apple mixture into the bottom and then top with the crumble mixture.
- Bake in the oven for 40 minutes until the crumble is browned and the fruit mixture bubbling.
- Serve with ice cream, custard or cream!
