Winter playkit

Written by Cath Evans - My First Five Years | Dec 20, 2023 7:29:02 PM

It’s cold outside, the days are short, and you might be feeling you’re running out of new ways to play. That’s why this month we’ve put together a list of things that will help you with some fresh activity ideas.

Each weekend in January, we’ll give you ideas for using the winter playkit, so don’t forget to check your app!

The right clothing

It can be tempting to stay inside once the weather gets cold – but being outside, in the right clothing can give your baby or child a new experience.

When you’re thinking about getting outside in the cold, think about layers, including waterproof trousers, coat, gloves and boots, so your child can explore the snow and ice.

When dressing your baby for winter, think about the layers you are wearing, your baby is likely to need one more layer than you. Layers are great for babies as you can take a layer off when you go inside to make sure they don’t get too warm.

Snuggling together inside

Time outside is great but when you get home, getting cosy inside is a perfect way to enjoy time together in those dark evenings.

  • Cushions
  • Blankets
  • Twinkly lights
  • Warm drinks

Books and stories

What can you see in winter? By Sian Smith

Start a conversation about winter with this book. It has simple repetitive language and pictures you could chat about together. This could be the perfect book to share after a winter’s day out.

The snowy day, Ezra Jack Keats

This classic story captures the magic of playing in the snow. Why not look at it together on a snowy day and talk about all the things your child has enjoyed.
