The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is known as a children’s classic for many reasons! It is a tale that was first published in 1969 and has been passed down through the generations ever since, and it’s still as fun and interesting as ever more than 50 years later.
There are many aspects that are touched upon in The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The most obvious part of the tale is the life cycle of the caterpillar as he becomes (spoiler alert!) a beautiful butterfly, but other themes include the days of the week, counting and number, and times of the day.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is also a book that feels very interactive – it has different-sized flaps to explore, and little holes in the fruits to show where the caterpillar has been munching away. The beautiful collage inspiration in this book feels truly timeless, too.
