“The path represents your child,” How you can use the app to see your child’s unique development

Written by Cath Evans - My First Five Years | Jun 6, 2023 1:20:34 PM

We all love seeing our children master skills, and knowing we’ve helped them get there. No matter what the skill is, it’s great to enjoy a little celebration and to know what's likely to be coming next.

Nap time mastery

When we talk to parents, they tell us that nap times and night feeds are a good time to look at the skills journey.

Having a look at skills during your child’s nap means when they wake up you have some fresh play ideas ready to go.

And if it’s been one of those days where it feels like nothing has quite gone to plan, you can use mastering skills to remind yourself that you’re doing a great job!

Master together

The other tip users have shared with us is to master with your partner, or any friends or relatives who look after your child.

We all notice different things so having a chat about the skills journey is a brilliant way for everyone to see all the things your child is learning – and what’s coming next!

If you want to share your login, your partner or a relative can download the app and use your login on their phone.

Read about the skill

We provide a short description on the skill tile – but sometimes you might want to read more. Tap the skill to discover more detail.

Our journey shows you all the little steps, so sometimes skills might sound quite similar to ones you’ve seen earlier. Reading the longer description can be helpful to see the difference.

Click any skill to see more information about it and find the linked activity ideas which will help you support your child to master that skill – so you feel confident that you know what you’re looking for when you’re playing.

How many skills? How often?

We know each child develops differently, and individual children have times when their development is faster or slower, so there is no set number of skills that ‘should’ be mastered at any time.

Your child will probably master skills every week, sometimes every day. By keeping their skills up to date you'll keep getting new ideas and activities that will help you support their development.

If you have any tips for other parents, we’d love to hear from you.
