Of the £127 million, over £50 million of that will go to NHS trusts to boost staffing levels in maternity and neo natal care. As well as this, £34 million is to go to supporting local maternity systems, and funding leadership and development programmes.

£45 million will also go to neonatal units to provide new cots, and improvement of care.

This funding announcement is linked to the NHS Long Term Plan, which outlines the goal of making England the safest place in the world to give birth.
