Summer fruit smoothie
Fruit smoothies are a fun way to introduce seasonal fruits and vegetables to young children. Smoothies can be quite simple to make if you have a blender available.
As with all our recipes, allowing your child to do as much of the process themselves, where appropriate, is key in supporting their learning and development.
So, think about if they can weigh, chop, or pour independently, as this is where the real learning comes in!
What you need:
- Banana
- Summer fruits – for example, strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, blueberries
- Apple or cranberry juice
How to make:
- Chop your fruit into small pieces – if your child is confident using a knife, they can help with this part
- Peel and half the banana. Use one half of the banana per smoothie.
- Fill up the blender with the fruits of your choice – around 200g in total. Add the banana.
- Pour over the juice of your choice – between 50 and 100ml depending on how thick or runny you would like it.
- Blend your smoothie in the blender. Pour into a cup and enjoy!
