Recycling Week – Making use of household objects

This week is recycling week, with this year’s ‘Let’s Get Real’ theme focusing on improving recycling knowledge, as well as challenging misconceptions and myths around recycling.

When it comes to play, household objects are some of the best toys that your child can use to explore and make new discoveries. Here are some of our favourites.

Cups

Cups are super-versatile. Use them in water play (or in the bath) for scooping, moving and splashing. You could also use cups to roll, stack, build and knock down, as well as using them to support messy play.

Cardboard

Got some cardboard boxes to pop into the recycling bin? Hang on to them! Cardboard boxes are really versatile, especially when it comes to imaginative play. They can be used as props or made into something completely different, depending on what your child is showing interest in – think a pirate ship, a post box or even a magical castle!

Plastic bottles

Bottles can be repurposed in many ways. You could fill them with pasta, sand or beads to make a simple shaker, or you could fill one with water, glue and food colouring to make a sensory bottle.
