It seems that recently there has been a different headline each week about the impact of lockdown on children’s development. Just last week, a report was released suggesting that parents spent less time playing with their children in 2019 than in 2021, although the drop was quite small – from 76% of parents reporting they played with their child every day in 2019 to 72% of parents in 2021.[1]

This week is Children’s Book Week! This is a week when children’s books, and everything surrounding them is celebrated over the world.

When we think about child language acquisition, we are thinking about how language is gained and how it is developed. As soon as babies are born, they immediately interact with the people around them, and their journey towards learning and using language begins.
