The Story of Music set

July 25 - Story of music

This is a fabulous set of books. They are a refreshing alternative to the standard topics found in most baby books. Even though they are written for babies, children and adults of all ages can learn much from them.

The books focus on four musical genres:; Rap, Rock, Pop, and Country. They are also available to buy individually if you are interested in one style of music in particular. Each book contains quirky images of musical greats and iconic stars who have created music throughout different eras. If you feel musical, it might be hard to resist singing the words in the style of the book you are reading!

The family is sure to love the excellent rhyming text that introduces musicians and their songs. There are loads of opportunities to learn more about music and artists, and to explore words with older children. You could also make your own musical books at home, including your favourite bands and artists.

Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons by Eric Litwin

July 25 - Pete

This is a great sing-along book for you all to enjoy. Pete introduces us to another catchy song as we travel with him through this story. You can search online for the song to accompany the book and you may wish to sing the song with family, including the 't' in the word buttons! We are sure the whole family will soon be joining in with the singing.

We just love Pete’s positivity, and the end of this story just makes what is already a fab story, epic! Yes, you might have guessed it... Pete loses his buttons. Is he bothered? Goodness no!

This book is particularly appealing for babies because of the vivid colours and straightforward graphics. You can talk about the groovy buttons' colours with slightly older children and introduce simple subtraction with your eldest.

We adore the book's repetitious structure because it gives children a strong sense of self-assurance that they can predict what will happen next. For young children, the general lesson about not getting overly concerned about losing things is really helpful.

In my Heart: A Book of Feelings by Jo Witek

July 25 - In my heart

This beautiful book does a tremendous job of exploring feelings with your child. Feelings can be difficult to understand, but In My Heart expresses and demonstrates how feelings could sound, look, and feel.

A wide range of emotions are covered, and the text is simply and exquisitely illustrated. The cut-out heart that runs throughout the book is really appealing to children.

The text can be adapted for children of all ages. There is plenty of flexibility in how the book might be read. You could simply talk about the book with your toddler but read it to an older child.

Everywhere Babies by Susan Meyers

July 25 - Everywhere

We absolutely adore this book.

Everywhere Babies grabs your attention right away with its repeated text pattern and the most endearing illustrations of babies.

The diversity of the babies and the antics they get up to in the book will appeal to children and adults of all ages. We love that it celebrates and identifies with the wonderful variety of families who make up our beautiful world.

The illustrations may be relatable to older children, providing lots of lovely conversation starters, while children who are younger may recognise familiar images and point to share their interest.

You might wish to swap some of the American words used in this story, this can be done easily.

Ketchup On Your Cornflakes? By Nick Sharratt

July 25 - Ketchup-1

What a fun book! Storytime will never be the same again once this little gem has been introduced.

Each page is divided into two sections with the top illustration saying, “Do you like...” and the bottom illustration, “On your...”. You and your family can create a variety of fun combinations with this book.

Younger babies will be captivated by the simplicity of the illustrations, while older children can spend hours making up funny sentences. There is sure to be laughter and giggles as the family explores the creativity of Ketchup on your Cornflakes

We love that this book creates independent reading for all children. Your children might enjoy looking at this book by themselves. They can easily flick through the pages and understand what they are reading regardless of age.
