Excited and nervous – preparing for a holiday

The thought of going away for a holiday might fill you with joy, but sometimes young children can be a little unsure.
Children often like a familiar routine and going away on holiday might bring a mixture of emotions. Your child might be excited about the holiday, but also a little nervous about being somewhere new.
Some tips for getting ready for your holiday
- Talk to your child about the holiday, who is going with you, how long you will stay and where they will sleep.
- Involve your child with packing for the holiday. They can think about what they would like to take with them. Would they like to bring a treasured toy or their favourite bedtime story?
- Acknowledge how they feel – holidays can be exciting, but it is ok if they feel a bit nervous about being somewhere new.
- If you are going to a country where people speak a different language to the ones your child speaks at home, you could learn some words together.
