Playdough is a great resource for fun and exploration with children and can be used for a wide variety of things. Ready-made playdough is easily available if you want something quick and handy but making your own at home is a fun experience for you and your child. Homemade playdough is also great to customise.
This playdough recipe is simple, straightforward, makes use of some kitchen cupboard staples, and requires no cooking!
You will need:
- Plain flour
- Salt
- Oil of your choice
- Cold water
- Food colouring (if you fancy)
How to:
- In a large mixing bowl, add a cup of salt and two cups of plain flour. Mix together.
- Then add a tablespoon of your chosen oil, followed by a cup of cold water. Add a few drops of food colouring at this stage if you would like coloured dough.
- Mix your dry and wet ingredients together until they form a dough.
- If your mix feels a little dry, add a few extra drops of water – if it feels wet, add an extra sprinkle of flour.
- Carry on kneading your dough until you are happy with the texture.
- Store in an airtight container between playing to keep fresh for as long as possible.
