Getting outside in all weathers gives your child the opportunity to experience the changing seasons. But if you’re looking for ideas for after a chilly walk or when you just want to stay inside in the warm read on!

The simplest idea for staying inside on a chilly day is to snuggle up together with a favourite book. Find a spot where you’re both comfortable and look at a book together.

Tummy time textures

What you need

  • Soft blankets, scarves or hats.

What to do

  • Put the blanket or scarf on the floor.
  • Lie your baby on their tummy with the soft items just in front of them.
  • Give them time to touch the blankets and other items.
  • Talk about the items, “Oh it’s fluffy,” or “That’s soft.”

Supervise your baby during tummy time and check the blankets and other items for loose threads.

Dark dens and bright lights

What you need

  • Blankets
  • Fairy lights and torches

What to do

  • Use the blankets to make a den.
  • You could do this by putting a blanket between two chairs or over a table.
  • If there is a safe place to position them put the lights in the den.
  • Put the torches in the den.
  • Give your child time to explore the lights.

Drink and chat

Your favourite warm drink
