Cook it! By Georgie Birkett

Title: Cook it!
By: Georgie Birkett

Cook it! is a book all about how our hands can help out at home, from measuring ingredients, spreading them, cooking them and even washing up! This book is great for young children who want to help with household tasks but may lack a little confidence in doing so. The bright and simple illustrations in this book also help make it more accessible for children who may want to have a go at exploring the book independently.

This is a simple book that encourages young children to get involved in activities that will help them become more independent and develop skills, particularly fine motor and cognitive skills.

Cook it! is also a part of a series of books about helping at home for young children – so if your child isn’t showing much interest in kitchen activities, they might enjoy learning a little bit more about cleaning, or planting in the garden.

Sharing this book with your baby, toddler or child

This book is great for introducing vocabulary linked with daily life. When you read this with your baby, choose one or two items on each page to point to. As you point, say the name of the object you are pointing to.

Toddlers will love to help find specific items within the illustrations. You could ask them to look for a particular object in a picture.

Your child could recreate the story with you, and you could make a real pizza. You could make a list together, just as they did in the book, and go shopping. You could invite your child to be as helpful as the child in the story.
