Children’s Book Week (every child’s a reader)

This week is Children’s Book Week! This is a week when children’s books, and everything surrounding them is celebrated over the world.

Here are a few ways that you can celebrate at home.

Declutter and donate books

As your child gets older, their reading preferences will often change, although there might be some favourite books they enjoy for many years. It’s a great idea to sort out your at home library every so often. Donating unwanted books to family members, friends, local nurseries and even charity shops can result in new favourites for others.

Visit your local library or bookshop

Libraries are a great resource for children – and they are free! You may find a new favourite book, or even a new activity. Many libraries hold workshops targeted at different ages, too.

Host a book-swapping party

This is a perfect way to pass on books that you have multiple copies of, ones that your child is no longer interested in or grown out of! Invite a few children and their parents over, and ask everybody to bring any unwanted books. Swap over your books, letting people take home their picks.

You might find your child realises they love a book when it is being swapped or donated, so you could have stories party instead. Invite some friends and family over and each bring a favourite story to share.
