Cheesy scones recipe

These are super delicious with soup or try as a new yummy snack! Your child can take part in helping you with most of the steps of this recipe and they always turn out tasty.

As with all our recipes, allowing your child to do as much of the process themselves, where appropriate, is key in supporting their learning and development. So, think about if they can weigh, mix, chop or scoop independently, as this is where the real learning comes in!

Ingredients:

  • 225g self-raising flour
  • 55g butter
  • 25g grated cheese
  • 150ml milk
  • Pinch of salt

How to:

  1. Preheat the oven to 220c or Gas Mark 7.
  2. Grease a baking sheet or use baking parchment to cover a tin.
  3. Mix the flour and salt, rub in the butter until crumbly and then fold in the cheese and milk to form a dough.
  4. Flour a surface and lightly knead the dough on the surface.
  5. Roll out until you have dough that about 2cm thick and cut out using the cookie cutters or a glass.
  6. Place on the baking sheet and cook for 12-15 minutes until they are golden brown and well risen.
  7. Allow to cool before eating! These are great with soup, and you can freeze them for up to three months.
