My Dad Used to Be So Cool by Keith Negley

This is a story that looks at how our lives change as we become parents. In this story, a father and child look back on the dad's life pre-children, when he spent time in a band, getting tattoos and riding a motorbike. This is a fun, heart-warming and refreshing perspective on fatherhood in children’s books!

Stick Man by Julia Donaldson

Stick Man tells the tale of a stick, who, despite going on crazy adventures, just wants to get back his stick Lady Love and his stick children. This magical story of family has also been adapted into a fantastic animated film.

Peck Peck Peck by Lucy Cousins

Bright, bold and funny, Peck Peck Peck tells the story of a little woodpecker who has been taught to peck by their dad. This is a great interactive story for younger children to enjoy, with plenty of vibrant illustrations and rhymes!

Luna Loves Library Day by Joseph Coelho

Not all children live with both parents but we don’t always find this  represented in children’s books. Luna Loves Library Day is all about a little girl called Luna who lives with her mum. Luna looks forward to the days that she spends at the local library, because this is a special time with her dad.

The Girl with Two Dads by Mel Elliott

The Girl with Two Dads is all about a girl named Pearl who makes friends with Matilda at school. Pearl discovers that Matilda has two dads and is super excited to meet them. Pearl thinks that Matilda’s family are going to be very different from her own but finds out that their families have a lot more in common than she thought.

I Love my Grandad by Giles Andreae

Lots of us have a special relationship with our grandparents. I Love My Grandad is all about the bond between a young child and their grandad, and talks about all of the wonderful things that they enjoy doing together. This board book is great for little ones to explore!
