In a Garden. By Tim McCanna, illustrated by Aimée Sicuro
I love, love, love this book! This is quite a long book but wow, does it bring nature right into your home! It is magnificently written, bringing together sounds in the environment and the names of all things associated with nature into a delightful rhyming story.
Based in a city garden, Tim’s use of descriptive wording plunges you into the story. He writes masterfully about the sounds the great outdoors can offer, from tiny beetles scurrying to the gentle breeze in the leaves. Several aspects of natural growth are identified in this truly inspiring book. The four seasons establish how things grow unseen, and also view many life cycles from insects laying eggs, to bulbs springing into life and a woman who is pregnant.
This book is a must for everyone, it is definitely one to be read over and over again.
If reading to a baby: Take them outside and point out to them, different things you can see in the book.
If reading to a toddler: See if they can spot any wildlife in the illustrations.
If reading to a child: Encourage them to spot some of the finer details in the illustrations.
