Here are a few fun facts about Wimbledon that you may not have known:

More than 50,000 tennis balls are used every year

To be more exact, the number is approximately 54,250. They are stored in a refrigerator to keep them in good condition and are replaced after every seven games.

The longest-ever Wimbledon match lasted for 11 hours

In 2010, the match between John Isner and Nicolas Mahut went on for 11 hours and five minutes and took place over three days.

The most singles titles at Wimbledon were won by a woman

Despite the Ladies’ Singles competition starting at Wimbledon nine years after the men's, a woman holds the current record for the most title victories, with Martina Navratilova winning a total of nine.

Why not have a game of tennis with your child to celebrate Wimbledon fortnight?

If your child is not quite ready to hit a ball accurately, you could start by simply rolling a ball backwards and forwards to each other.

Passing from one person to another is a great way to practise physical skills and can support babies and younger children to develop communication and cognitive skills.
