7 out of 10 parents admit that they feel judged by others
A study of 2,000 parents by the C&G Baby Club has found that 7 out of 10 parents feel “judged” by others, on a range of different parenting topics.
The survey of parents of children ranging from newborns to three-year-olds found that over half of parents felt apprehensive when it came to having more children due to this judgement from others. These feelings also prevented 51% of parents surveyed from taking part in things such as development classes.
There were many aspects to parenthood where many felt as though they were being judged by others, with many answering that they felt judgement even before becoming a parent – 31% of parents who sought out alternative conception said that they felt as though they were judged, and 24% were subject to unwanted opinion in regards to their personal birth plan.
These findings had led television couple, and soon-to-be parents Olivia and Alex Bowen to team up with C&G Baby Club for the #LoveDontJudge campaign, which aims to support parents and those who are about to become parents and raise awareness of the mental health effects that unsolicited opinions and judgement can have on families.
