Face time – making sure your baby sees the people who love them

What to try

  • Your baby might be taking a real interest in faces now, especially those of the people they see regularly.
  • If you’re comfortable having visitors close to your baby, remind them that your baby’s eyesight is still developing.
  • When talking to or playing with your baby, they will want to keep their face within around 30cm of your baby's face, so their expressions can be enjoyed by your little one.
  • Notice how your baby is responding and encourage your visitors to move away if the visual stimulation becomes a little too much for your baby who might indicate this by looking away, becoming unsettled or even closing their eyes.
