You can do this too – use action words as you play
What you need
- Playdough, you can buy some or use our simple recipe to make your own
- Time and space to enjoy playdough with your toddler
What to try
- Have a bit of playdough each; as you play with your piece, talk about what you’re doing.
- Use lots of words to describe your actions, but keep it simple. For example, say, “I’m going to squeeze it,” or simply, “push down!” when you squash some dough.
- Pause so your toddler can watch what you’re doing and think about what you’ve said.
- You don’t need to ask your toddler to copy you, unless they want to.
