Where does this go? Tidying and organising toys
What you need
- Your baby’s belongings
- A bit of time to spend organising
What to try
- Now their memory is developing, your baby will start to remember where things are kept. Think about how your baby’s toys are organised – can they access their boxes and containers?
- Organising toys on a shelf or in a few boxes or baskets low down can be helpful. This will help your baby find what they want independently, and enable them to take part in tidying up.
- Allow time for your baby to help tidy up when they’ve been playing; they might get distracted very easily so will need lots of help.
Good to know
Your baby might not concentrate for long yet, but even putting one or two things away will help them to think about where things belong.
If you notice your baby is really interested in a particular toy or object, don’t tidy this away. Your baby is beginning to remember where they left something and if you can leave things for them to come back to this might encourage deeper exploration.
