What happened today? An end-of-day activity to encourage why questions
What to try
Choose a time towards the end of the day when your child is relaxed and happy to chat.
Tell them about your day, include experiences that are familiar to them.
Pause and give them time to comment or ask a question.
If they don’t ask a ‘why’ question, you could ask one yourself. For example, “I went to buy my sandwich and there was a baby crying in the shop. I wonder why they were crying?”
