What happened next? Help your child to tell friends and family about things they’ve been doing

What to do

  1. When visiting a relative or friend, encourage your child to share a memory about a recent event. This can be done over a video call if you’re not able to see people face-to-face.
  2. Start them off by saying, “Do you remember when we went to the zoo? Why don’t you tell Grandma all about it?”
  3. Listen to how they tell their story and in what order.
  4. If the story takes a detour, you can help bring it back on track by commenting on something that happened next, or reminding your child of what they have just said.
