What you need
- Paintbrushes, or use natural brushes like sticks and feathers
- Water, bubbly water or coloured water
- Some outside space
What to do
- Give your toddler a paintbrush and tub of water.
- Encourage them to use these to ‘paint’ on a path, fence or wall.
- Perhaps get a paintbrush yourself and join in.
- Chat with them about what you are painting to help your toddler think about the shapes and patterns they can make with their brush.
Good to know
You may find that your toddler will be more interested in drawing with sticks in mud. This is still great as they create an idea in a large mud patch and watch how the mud moves and spreads. Seeing the mud move might inspire some different ideas as to what it is your toddler is drawing or creating.
