Watch my mouth move – yours will start to move like this soon

What to do

  1. Show your baby the different ways you can move your mouth, lips and tongue.
  2. Sit together, face to face, making sure your baby is about 30cm away from you.
  3. Create different movements and add sound if you want to.
  4. Create a movement, then pause.
  5. After a few seconds, make the same movement again.
  6. If your baby makes a mouth movement, try to copy it.

Good to know

Babies learn through lots of repetition. When movements are repeated, it increases the likelihood that your baby will eventually be able to imitate you.

Copy your baby’s mouth movements. When your baby is crying less and exploring their first sounds, move so they can see you copy what they are doing.
