Two little dickie birds – Oh wait, they flew away! You will have to turn to see where they went

What you need

  • A comfortable seated position on the sofa for you
  • Low level furniture
  • The words and actions for ‘Two Little Dickie Birds’

What to do

  1. Before you sing, position yourself on the sofa and encourage your baby to come over to you.
  2. When they reach you, support them to pull up to standing – using you or the sofa for support.
  3. If your baby is already standing and using furniture for support, this could be a perfect time.
  4. Sing ‘Two Little Dickie Birds’ – the actions are listed with each line, so you’ll know what to do:

Two little dicky birds sitting on the wall: hold both index fingers in front of you

One named Peter: wiggle one index finger, ‘the Peter finger.’

One named Paul: wiggle the other index finger, ‘the Paul finger.’

Fly away Peter: slowly move the hand with ‘the Peter finger’ behind your baby’s back and hide it (watch to see if your baby follows the bird as it flies behind them)

Fly away Paul: slowly move the other hand, ‘the Paul finger’, behind your baby’s back and hide it (watch to see if your baby follows the bird as it flies behind them)

Come back Peter: bring ‘the Peter finger’ to one side of your face.

Come back Peter: bring ‘the Paul finger’ to the other side of your face
