Two Little Dickie Birds – how to encourage body turning with an action song
What to do
- While your baby is sitting down, sit facing them and say the rhyme ‘Two Little Dicky Birds’.
- Instead of flying the birds behind your back, fly them behind your baby’s back.
- When you do this, see if they try to turn and watch where your fingers fly off too.
Two little dicky birds sitting on the wall: place both index fingers on your baby’s shoulders.
One named Peter: wiggle one index finger "the Peter finger". You can show this finger to your baby and place it back on their shoulder.
One named Paul: wiggle the other index finger “the Paul finger” and repeat the above step.
Fly away Peter: slowly move "the Peter finger" behind your baby’s back and hide it.
Fly away Paul: slowly move "the Paul finger" behind your baby’s back and hide it.
Come back Peter: bring "the Peter finger" to one side of your face.
Come back Paul: bring "the Paul finger" to the other side of your face.
