What you need
- An inset jigsaw puzzle (these are typically made of wood and have large, bulky pieces that don't interlock in the way jigsaws do)
What to do
- Take the pieces out of the puzzle.
- Invite your toddler to play.
- Ask them to choose a piece to put into the puzzle.
- Give them lots of time to look at the shape and move it round to match it to the inset space.
- Encourage them and let them know when they are doing well, (it will be tricky for your toddler to work out how to place the piece the right way).
Good to know
If you don’t have an inset jigsaw puzzle handy, you can use any simple or 4-piece puzzle and spread out the pieces to be put back together. You might need to put the first two pieces together to get things started.
