Today’s highlight – chat about your day together
What to try
- Find a time to chat about your day – this might be while you have your evening meal, bathtime or when you settle your toddler into bed.
- Ask, “What was the best part of your day?”
- Pause and give your toddler time to think and answer.
- Talk about what they tell you about their day, then tell them the best bit of your day.
Good to know
Asking about the best bit of the day might be easier for your toddler than asking them, “What did you do today?” You could also ask, “Is there anything you didn’t like today?” this can help your toddler see that sometimes everyone feels sad, angry or disappointed and that’s ok.
Starting these conversations when they’re young will help them learn they can talk to you about difficult things that have happened as well as good things – which is an important foundation for future wellbeing.
