Tissue box tug – a simple game to develop your baby’s grip

What you need

  • A tissue box
  • Squares of fabric or napkins

What to do

  1. Place all the fabric into the box and place it in front of your baby and watch them explore.
  2. Show them how to pull the fabric out of the tissue box.
  3. You could have a box each, so your baby can watch you pull tissues from yours.
  4. If your baby enjoys this game, you could make it more challenging by putting the tissues in with only a tiny piece sticking out, encouraging them to grab with their fingers rather than their whole hand.

Good to know

Varying what you hide in the tissue box – pieces of paper (junk mail is perfect!) or even small blocks – will give them lots of opportunities to practice different ways of grabbing and pulling.
