What you need
- A shallow basket
- Safe items for your baby to explore, such as spoons, containers, musical shakers, kitchen roll tubes, empty egg cartons, fabric, building blocks, a pastry brush or shape sorter pieces
What to do
- Sit near to your baby and leave them to have their own exploratory time.
- Watch how they investigate and use the different items.
- This could be a great time for you to go and get that drink you’ve been thinking about all day – pop the kettle on and watch as your baby leads their own investigation.
Make sure you supervise your baby and check any objects you give them are safe for them to explore.
Good to know
They will use a lot of skills in this activity, and their brain will be working hard on how to pick up, move and use the objects.
